Isn’t it crazy that we expect so much more out of a coach than out of a dad?

Coaches are expected to have a plan of action. Dads are expected to stay out of the way . Coaches are expected to spend many hours every week training their players. Dads are expected to be distracted by their work and hobbies.

Have you ever wondered why most coaches seem to be held to a higher standard than what we hold fathers to in our culture? In most shows and movies the dads tend to be aloof, passive, the source of the problems or not even present.

While coaches tend to be champions and beacons of hope and protection and a father’s heart (Remember The Titans anyone? Coach Carter? 🙋🏻‍♂️). Maybe this is simply because so many of us have great examples of what it means to be a coach, so we are able to replicate that later in life while not many of us have good examples of what it means to be a father, so we don’t even know what to expect or how to do it ourselves once we get there.

For those reading this who had an awesome father coach growing up (sons or daughters, we’d love to hear from both!), tell us more about him! What made him stand out or what are ways he fathered you that impacted you or stayed with you? What did he teach you about what a father is meant to be?
